Directions to Washington State

GETTING TO WASHINGTON STATE:

The state is located in the extreme northwest corner of the contiguous United States. It is bordered by Oregon to the south, Idaho to the east and the Canadian Province of British Columbia to the north. The western side of the state is bordered by the Pacific Ocean.

DRIVING: All areas of the state can be reached by major Interstates or good state roads. Running north-south through the western part of the state is Interstate 5 which comes from Oregon and continues up to British Columbia where it becomes Canadian Highway 99. Another north-south route is Interstate 82 from Hermiston, Oregon, up through the tri-cities of Pasco, Richland and Kennewick. It continues north through Yakima eventually becoming Highway 97 and crossing Wenatchee, Chelan and the Okanogan Valley before reaching Canada. Interstate 90 runs east-west in the almost center of the state coming from Idaho, through Spokane in Eastern Washington and terminating in Seattle to the west. Other east-west highways are Highway 12 in the southern part of the state and Highway 2 in the northern part.

FLYING: There are major international airports in the Seattle Tacoma area (Western Washington) and Spokane in eastern Washington. Access to the state is also easy from Portland International in Portland, Oregon, just across the river from Vancouver, Washington (not Vancouver, BC) in the southern part of the state and from Vancouver, BC just across the border from Blaine and Bellingham, Washington in the northern region of the state. There are also jet serviced airports in Wenatchee, Yakima and the Tri-Cities.

RAIL: Amtrak provides passenger rail service north-south through Seattle-Tacoma and east-west through Spokane to Seattle.

Directions to Lake Chelan

GETTING TO LAKE CHELAN:
This recreational area is located pretty much in the center of the state. There is jet service to Wenatchee, Washington, about 40 miles south of Lake Chelan, and light airplane service to the Chelan airport. However, most visitors drive to Lake Chelan.

From the Seattle area:
- Get on Interstate 90 heading east
- Proceed up and over Snoqualmie Pass
- Take Exit 85 for Washington 970 north towards Wenatchee
- Turn left onto Washington 970
- Turn right to stay on Washington 970 (10 miles)
- Washington 970 becomes US-97 North (35.1 miles)
- Merge onto US-2 East/US-97 North via the ramp to Wenatchee
- Slight right onto US-2 East/US-97 North ramp to Okanogan/Spokane
- Turn left onto Easy Street (410 feet)
- Turn right onto Ohme Garden Road (1 mile)
- At traffic circle, take the third exit onto US-97 ALT North (33 miles)
- Turn left on West Woodin Avenue into Downtown Chelan

From Vancouver, British Columbia:
- Cross the border and drive south on Interstate 5 toward Seattle
- Take exit 194 for US-2 East toward Wenatchee (190 kilometers)
- Slight right onto US-2 East/US-97 North ramp to Okanogan/Spokane
- Turn left onto Easy Street (130 meters)
- Turn right onto Ohme Garden Road (1.6 kilometers)
- At traffic circle, take the third exit onto US-97 ALT North (53 kilometers)
- Turn left on West Woodin Avenue into Downtown Chelan

From Eastern Washington & Spokane area:
- Get on Interstate 90 heading West
- Take exit 277 for US-2 West
- Turn left to stay on US-2 West in Banks Lake South
- Shortly after Banks Lake turn left onto Washington 17 North (14 miles)
- Turn left onto Washington 172 West (12.4 miles)
- Turn right onto 14th Road Northeast/Wall Avenue (0.6 mile)
- Turn right onto Washington-172 West (7.7 miles)
- Turn right onto 14th Road Northwest/McNeil Canyon Road (0.4 mile)
- Continue onto C Road (0.9 mile)
- Turn left onto 15 Road Northwest/McNeil Canyon Road (10.2 miles)
- Turn right onto US-97 North and cross Beebe Bridge (0.5 mile)
- Turn left onto Washington-150 (3 miles)
- Turn left onto US-97 ALT South, which will take you into Downtown Chelan

Directions to Wapato Point

Directions to Wapato Point:
- As you enter the town of Chelan look for signs to Manson, WA.
- Take Highway 150 West/West Manson Road to Manson (about 8 miles).
- As you arrive in Manson turn Left at the Wapato Point Resort sign.
- Much of the time there is a safety officer at the front gate.
- If so, give them your name and explain that you are there to check in.
